She was told her employment and support allowance was being stopped as she lay dying in a hospital bed

A double heart and lung transplant patient died just NINE DAYS after the Government stopped her benefits and ordered her to go back to work.

Linda Wootton, 49, was on 10 prescription drugs a day, suffering high blood pressure, renal failure and regular blackouts.

Yet Atos – the private firm carrying out the Government’s controversial work capability assessments – ruled she was fit enough to find a job after she was interviewed.

Cost-cutting officials sent Linda a letter telling her that her £108.05 a week employment and support allowance was being stopped as she lay dying in a hospital bed.

Her husband Peter said: “I sat there and listened to my wife drown in her own body fluids. It took half an hour for her to die – and that’s a woman who’s ‘fit for work’. The last months of her life were a misery because she worried about her benefits, feeling useless, like a scrounger.

Yoko Ono, Sean Lennon Put Anti-Fracking on New York Billboard

Advocacy group is urging Gov. Andrew Cuomo not to rush a study on the issue

Yoko Ono, Sean Lennon and their Artists Against Fracking group have posted a large billboard in New York urging Gov. Andrew Cuomo not to rush a study on the natural gas extraction method known as hydraulic fracturing to meet a November 29th regulatory deadline. The billboard reads “Governor Cuomo: Imagine There’s No Fracking,” and is situated on the Major Deegan Expressway, a route oven traveled by Cuomo. By missing the November 29th deadline, New York would be forced to draft new regulations, as well as reopen a window for public comment.

“Our message is simple: we want Gov. Cuomo to imagine and guarantee a New York free of the fracking threat to our water, air, beautiful landscapes and climate,” Ono tells Rolling Stone. “Every time New Yorkers pass this billboard, we also want them to imagine a truly clean energy future, not fracking.”

Road Map To Recovery! Good Or Bad

Changes in government drug treatment policy and how it can effect you.

Drug Use

The NTA (National Treatment Agency) are a long standing organisation who have helped there clients recover from the chaotic aspects of drug addictions. They published the orange guidelines which are renowned as being the best advisory booklet for drug use councillors, when helping there clients. It is regarded as a model of best practice and used like a bible when assisting in drug treatment.

They were focused on ensuring long term treatment for there clients, ensuring harm reduction and reducing the time in which clients had to wait to access treatment. they worked closely with the RCGP (Royal College of General Practitioners) giving advice and support when dealing with drug related issues. And on the whole they provided a very useful function in controlling drug treatment in the UK.

In 2013 as part of the Tory manifesto there are plans to dissolve the NTA and replace it with a new policy group known as the ‘Public Health England’.

This Change in government policy will massively effect the treatment of thous who are dependent of drugs, long term. It will also effect the way in which drug users are dealt with when coming into treatment, and is likely to be allied with the unemployment and housing benefit policies.

The following mantra was abstracted from the ‘Public Health England’ Guidelines released early 2012.

“Reducing Demand, Restricting Supply, Building Recovery”.

Which all sound very noble, but many people would argue that these goals are totally unrealistic and are not evidence based and for that matter unobtainable.

Reducing Demand!

Reducing the demand of self medicating, opiate or physic active drugs has never been achieved in the history of humanity. As a people we have been using drugs for over 3000 years, and as populations grow so to dose the demand for drugs.

The complexities of society in which drug use is as a problem is vast. The idea of reducing drug supply has never worked. With a growing global economy where goods are shipped very quickly around the world in bulk, the UK boarders agency can only prevent a small percentage of illicit substance entering the UK. At best this policy could increase the cost and decrease the quality of drug in the UK, but could never completely stop all imports of drugs into the country.

Restricting Supply!

Equally restricting supply has never been achieved. Often attempts to restrict supply of drug has resulted in more arrest and imprisonment of small time user/dealers, and the increasing number of arrests of urban youngsters who see drug dealing as a valid way of earning money they desperately need, thus stopping any chance of them re-entering into the jobs market.

Also the legal high market has always offset an decrease in illegal drug supplies. Also restricting drug supply leads users to consume more over the counter or prescription medication, which is counter productive for the user and can often lead to more health issues.

Building Recovery!

Recovery is a goal that is often very different for each individual.

In the past under the NTA’S Orange guidelines, recovery described a whole range of individual interventions, including substitute medication prescribed for as long as the client required, dealing with a therapeutic input to help clients manage trauma or emotional issues, and counseling/ talking through issues etc.

But with the ending of NTA in 2013 and with the creation of the ‘Public Health England’ the focus has changed.

The emphasis has changed from a system that used to help people throughout the recovery process, (which could be the rest of there lives) to a system witch is focused on enforced detoxification, and limiting the amount of time people are given to deal with there drug dependence. The ultimate goal will be to enforce abstinence on drug users.

Conclusion!

It seems that the introduction of Public Health England, will in fact cause more problems instead of solving problems that already exist. It is a simplistic view which is not evidence based. It will force more people off prescription drugs as there time in treatment is decreased and ultimately lead to more drug overdoses and the destabilisation of more family lives. It will also lead to the increase in prison population and force stable individuals who are currently in treatment back to the street.

It seems to me that this change in government policy is part of the puritanical moral backlash sweeping though much of the western world. Failing to admit that the so called War on Drug is an impossible ideology.

The Human Genome

Altering the Human Life Span

This documentary discusses the advances technological sciences since the creation of the human Genome project. many of these advances in technology look to help humanity defeat cancers and the general effect of growing old.  Though on the face of it creating cures for cancers and extending the average human life span are positive things, the documentary also highlight some of the ethical issue around the subject matter.

IS IT RIGHT TO PLAY GOD

Earthlings

Exploitation of Animals

This Documentary highlights the total disregard of animal well being in the 21st century. Although a little dated it draws upon video evidence and statistical analysis to show how the human race mistreats animals for its personal gain. whether for the use for food scientific research or for clothes animals of all kinds are exploited on on world wide scale.

BE WARNED THIS IS NOT FOR THE FAINT HEARTED.

I Cant Believe i Didnt Buy Butter!!

Butter Vs Margarine

This is a Brief Blog Highlighting the horrible truth about margarine!!! It is simply not better for you!!!!!!!!!!!!

Source: http://wewantorganicfood.com

What is butter?

One churns (stirs or agitates) milk or cream long enough and you come up with butter. Butter comes from cows’ milk usually, and machines are used to churn the milk or cream until it turns to butter. Assuming the butter is organic, that’s it. No further “ingredients” to make it last longer on the shelf. Or some ingredient used for coloring to make it look yellow.

What is margarine?

I visited a store and wrote down the ingredients to a famous margarine. You start with vegetable oils. In this case corn oil and soybean oil. Add hydrogen (which makes it hydrogenated vegetable oil). Add whey (the watery part of milk after it has been made to curdle), water and salt. Add emulsifiers (this means an agent used to make oil droplets mix with water), in this case mono- and diglyceride and soy lecithin. I added a simple definition of mono-and diglycerides:

Mono- and Diglycerides are common food additives used to blend together certain ingredients, such as oil and water, which would not otherwise blend well.
[From Answers.com]

Also added: vitamins A and D3, an unidentified artificial flavoring, vitamin A palmitate (a fatty acid obtained from saturated fats; in this case obtained from vitamin A). Colored with Beta Carotine. Potassium sorbate and sodium benzoate added as preservatives. Yes, this will last long on the shelf. Also, this famous-brand margarine said that it “contains: milk and soy.” Your guess is as good as mine as to where the milk is unless one considers whey as milk. It’s not quite milk.

I hope this bit of information has altered you perspective on margarine, and now you will choose to but real food as apposed to processed junk.!!!!

Meet The Truth

This documentary discuses one of the largest aspect of global warming! Often overlooked by those in the loop, the billions of animals being bread for food on our planet is one of the largest contributors to climate change. they create a massive amount on waste and require a huge amount of food to produce. some say that the human population on the planet is approaching 8 billion, it is a known fact that there are over 90 billion animals being bread for food consumption alone. this is a massively disproportionate number…
