Eco technologies put their best foot forward

Orange has today unveiled the ultimate gadget footwear for the summer’s festival goers, a pair of eco-wellies that harness the heat from your feet to charge your mobile phone.

Thanks to the power generating eco wellies, never again will you need to struggle in vein stranded in a muddy field looking for your one friend in an eighty-thousand strong crowd clutching your dead mobile.

The Orange Power Wellies, created in collaboration with renewable energy experts GotWind, include a ‘power generating sole’ that transforms the sweaty, humid heat from your unaired feet into a useable electrical current, aptly named ‘welectricity’.

Having spent the day stomping through mud and working up a sweat dancing in the sun, you can use the power generated by your festering feet by simply plugging your phone into the power output at the top of the boot.

Twelve hours of strolling through the festival scene in a pair of Orange Power Wellies would create enough thermal power to supply your mobile with one hour of charge. The hotter your feet get however, the more power you produce.

Managing Director of GotWind, Dave Pain said: “Wellies are now the staple festival footwear, the Orange Power Wellies not only keep you dry but they also provide a crucial eco electricity source.”

Although still just a prototype and unavailable to buy, the Orange Power Wellies will be showcased by Orange at Glastonbury Festival later this month.
